When you arrive at the Cabin, you’ll park up in your private car park, beginning your story with a short walk up the lane. You’ll pass the log store and immediately see the Narnia wardrobe, reminding you that magic can always be found, in the unusual of places. It’s one step up to the deck of the cabin as you make your way round to the double doors. We’ll provide you with the code for the door and where to find the lockbox in your confirmation. Here you’ll notice the outside nook, perfect for snuggling up with morning coffee or enjoying a nice cold glass of pinot grigio under starry skies.
On entering the cabin, you’ll head straight into the open plan living area / kitchen, complete with log burner, easy chairs, side table, library wall and lots of books to get stuck into! Logs are provided and more can be accessed from the log store. It’s a lovely light and airy space, but for when you want to hunker, the windows and doors have inlay blinds that can be adjusted to suit the sun. The view is a panoramic hillside, that invites an array of animals and birdlife. You may just spot a deer, a fox and certainly lots of buzzards. You’ll find board games, a DAB radio and plenty of literature to keep you occupied. It’s a “switch off from the world”vibe, but should you wish to stay in contact there’s excellent wifi / phone signal. Should you need a landline, one is available from the onsite office.
From the living area, this leads to the kitchen, where you’ll find everything is easy access. Please feel free to make the space your own and to use the kitchen cupboards for extra storage. The kitchen is small but perfectly formed. A small electric oven and separate hobs, fridge freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster and the shelves are well stocked with crockery, glassware, utensils and pots / pans hang from hooks.
Included is a pint of semi-skimmed milk and eggs from Cluckington Palace, our resident hens. There’s also teabags, coffee, sugar, oil, salt and pepper and a basic kitchen cleaning caddy. For the full list of kitchen items, you can see them here.
At the end of the kitchen is the bathroom, inspired by the stories of Enid Blyton. There’s a shower, with kind to nature shampoo, shower gel and conditioner provided. There’s a basin, heated towel rail and small mirror along with towels / bathmat. You’ll even notice Timmy the dog in this room!
As you make your way back through the kitchen, you’ll notice the library ladder. This is cleverly hung on the wall to ensure space saving and means you can move accessible furniture around – eg, the stools that turn into dining room chairs and the foldaway “desk inspired” tables. The ladder can be easily moved to hook onto safety rails and it’s a short trip up the ladder to the bedroom. There are two grab rails to make access easier. Inside this quirky, relaxing space you’ll find a double bed, with cosy linen and blankets. Two “wine box” side tables with small bedside lamps create the perfect spot to read and this is a place where you’ll immediately feel rested. With a shelf of more books to enjoy and even a ceiling to read, a window looks out across the hillside. A skylight also offers views of the stars and with no light pollution, the skies are spectacular here. With a mirror, hairdryer and coat hangers to hang clothing within the recess of the space, the area is small, but entirely charming. For your safety, there’s a bedroom partition made from an old bed frame and detailed little nooks of nostalgic stories add to the decor. Storage is limited, but you can store extra bags / clothing in the downstairs cupboards or use the storage boxes underneath the undercover nook.
Outside, the nook is a perfect undercover spot for enjoying beautiful views. It was designed to be a larger lounging area so that you can very much curl up, with cushions and blankets provided. This leads onto the deck, where following it round leads you to the Narnia door. You’re welcome to step through and see where it takes you. There are some fantastic farm walks, where you can visit the ponds, the orchards and uncover secret trails and tranquil spots. A map is provided in the cabin for you to use on your travels.
With access to your own private garden, it’s enclosed and has a private dining area, with parasol and firepit. In summer months the cattle usually come up to say hello, making for photo opportunities!
During your stay you’ll have access to the tennis court, the orchard, ponds and pool-house. Rackets are provided in the outdoor nook, whilst balls are on court.
The farm covers some 45 acres of English Countryside, and you are welcome to explore it. From your private car park, walk down the path and turn left, signposted to Lurcombe Farm. Head straight down the main lane and this will lead you to the ponds. Paths lead both to the left and to the right and can take you up to the hillside where you can be sure to find the perfect viewing spots.
When you leave the cabin, you have access to a private bin area, with both general and recycling waste bins. Everything is recycled and composted.
