Accessibility Information

At The Book Nook Dartmoor, we aim to offer a warm, welcoming and memorable stay for all our guests. Due to the unique design of our handcrafted cabin and its rural setting, there are some important accessibility considerations we want to share openly to help you decide if we are the right fit for your needs. FAQ’s

If you have any questions or would like clarification on anything listed here, please don’t hesitate to contact us before booking.

Arrival & Parking at our Dartmoor Cabin

Two dedicated parking spaces are available approximately 30 metres from the cabin entrance. As with many rural cabins in Devon, the parking and approach are on a farm track.

The ground may be uneven and can include gravel, grass, or mud depending on weather conditions. We recommend sturdy footwear, especially in wetter months.

If you would like help on arrival, just let us know in advance and we will do our best to assist you.

Getting Around the Site

The Cabin is set in a peaceful rural location on Dartmoor, surrounded by natural farmland.

  • Outdoor surfaces are uneven and not fully paved

  • Some areas are sloped or naturally textured

  • Lighting is low-level and designed to blend with the rural surroundings

This is part of the natural charm of a Dartmoor cabin stay, but it does mean guests should be comfortable walking short distances over uneven ground.

Inside The Cabin

Inside, The Cabin is cosy, compact, and open-plan — designed for a relaxing countryside retreat.

  • Ground floor living space is all on one level with no internal steps

  • Doorways are standard residential width

  • Furniture is flexible (stools turn into dining chairs and school desks fold away)

  • Lighting is warm, soft, and atmospheric rather than bright or clinical

  • QR codes display further digital information, a secret story about the cabin and farm field notes.

  • Space is intentionally modest, but we provide two storage boxes under the outside undercover nook. There’s also hanging space in the eaves, a freestanding coat hook and space in the kitchen to store bags/cases.

Sensory Considerations (Sound, Light & Environment)

The Cabin offers a quiet, rural retreat in the heart of Dartmoor.

  • Low ambient noise, with occasional natural farm sounds

  • Minimal light pollution, with low-level outdoor lighting at night

  • A peaceful environment that may feel very different from urban settings

This setting is ideal for guests looking for a quiet countryside escape, but may not suit those who require highly controlled sensory conditions.

Important Limitations

To help you make an informed decision, please note:

  • No wheelchair access

  • No ground-floor bedroom

  • Steep ladder access to sleeping area

  • Uneven outdoor terrain typical of rural Dartmoor setting.
