Rooted in nature, shaped by care & created not only as a place to stay but as a place that belongs to the landscape itself.

Hello, we’re Sarah and Nick & we’ve sought to diversify and make our farm a very special place to live, work and discover. Covering over 45 acres of beautiful English countryside, the cabin is part of a long term goal to regenerate the farm, doing so hand in hand with nature.

When an old elm tree fell in a storm three years ago, it uncovered an area we knew could be very special. We decided to handcraft an Artisan staycation Cabin, where 95% of the build uses recycled and reclaimed materials directly from the farm itself.

We’ve spent nearly two decades diversifying, moving forward with regenerative agriculture to give our children options for a future that doesn’t have to be defined by traditional farming. Diversifying is exhausting but paramount to aligning our values.

We live by the following quote “Magic is always pushing and drawing and making things out of nothing” (The Secret Garden, Frances Hodgson Burnett).

Climate-Positive Living

Our cabin was designed as a “passive house style” which operates with a light footprint and a long-term commitment to Net Zero.

* Built from sustainable materials, local timber and traditional building practices.

* Highly insulated for year-round comfort with minimal energy use

* Energy-efficient appliances and LED lighting throughout

* Solar generation

* Own bore hole for water

* Heated by our own logs for circular forestry.

* A “make, mend, do” philosophy where old treasures from onsite farm stores have been given a new lease of life.

* Dedication to reusing and upcycling the old – paint samples, fabric, building materials, objects.

* A seed library to encourage seed sharing & for guests to be able to take a little part of the farm home with them.

Nature at the Heart

The land came first — and it continues to lead every decision.

* We are in the process of applying for Country Wildlife status and are currently meeting with ecologists who will determine the outcome this year.

* Existing trees, hedgerows and habitats are protected with plans to increase the canopy with The Woodland Trust.

* Native wildflowers and meadow planting supports pollinators

* We are part of the greater horseshoe bat project with the Devon Wildlife trust to join bat corridors together, whilst laying traditional hedgerows interspaced with trees.

* No pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilisers are used

* Dark-sky lighting protects nocturnal wildlife

The landscape is managed gently and seasonally, allowing biodiversity to grow naturally year by year.

 Rooted in Place

Our cabin is deeply connected to its surroundings.

Its design reflects local materials and character, blending quietly into the landscape rather than competing with it.

We actively support the local economy by working with:

* Local builders and trades

* Artist workshops and flower farm

* Regenerative agriculture as we week to improve our farm for the future.

Guests are encouraged to explore respectfully — following the Countryside Code, protecting wildlife, and helping preserve the tranquillity that makes this place special.

Generally, as a farm, we are two years into a tree planting project with The Woodland Trust, increasing our woodland by 4 acres, to 20 in total, and have hosted a group of ecologists twice this last year who are assessing whether we will gain County Wildlife Status. They have recorded not only an Otter in our pond, but also some rare Lichen, all very exciting!

We are part of the Sustainable Farm Incentive and amongst several environmental objectives, have recently seeded approximately 11 acres with a multi species herbal ley to increase biodiversity. We tap Birch Sap every spring which is sold at Totnes market to raise funds for a local environmental CIC.

Everything here is guided by one simple idea:

That tourism can restore rather than deplete, support nature, community and climate with every visit.

As an artist, flower farmer and interior designer my studio is based onsite and we work closely together on a number of projects which launch in the shared offices. Nick’s practice is also onsite. With the flower farm at the bottom of the valley, seasonal flowers grow throughout the year whilst the kitchen garden thrives with homegrown produce.

The Book Nook is inspired by a love of books and literature. It was hand crafted and made as sustainably as possible, re-using, upcycling and renovating all from scratch and by re-purposing a trailer for the base of the build. The design is therefore quirky, creative and inventive. With a log burner, garden and even a Narnian wardrobe (who needs anything more!) it’s a very magical place to curl up in.

Guests can also travel more sustainably with:

* Secure bicycle storage

* Guidance on walking routes, public transport and local taxis

* Opportunities to be involved as we grow a seasonal programme of events.

We measure our carbon impact annually, reducing emissions wherever possible and balancing the remainder through verified nature-based projects (“Faith by Nature”)

Circular by Design

We believe resources should be respected — never wasted.

* Uniquely designed to be a passive house bespoke cabin, created as sustainably as possible.

* Low-flow taps and showers to reduce water use

* Harvested rainwater to support gardens and planting

* Towel and linen reuse help cut unnecessary laundry

* Durable, repairable furnishings replace disposable items

* Single-use plastics are avoided. Toiletries are provided in refillable dispensers, and guest confirmation is digital.

* Recycling is simple and clearly labelled.

* Guests have access to a log store for additional farm logs.

* Food waste is composted — returning nutrients back to the land as we make our own compost tea to improve our soil health.

We prioritise suppliers who share our values, choosing:

* Local businesses

* Sustainable and reclaimed materials

* Ethical and environmentally responsible products

 A Living Commitment

Regeneration is not a finished project. We continually review our impact, listen to guest feedback, and look for new ways to improve — guided by nature, learning and care.

What we intend to improve on:

* We are in the process of exploring on-site EV charging

* Improving the stats for our solar use to 100%

* The garden space – with a view to create an outside private bathing area.

* To develop a community of book lovers within our social media platforms, where books can be discussed, reviewed and shared.
