The Book Nook, a self-catering cabin on Dartmoor where you can enjoy a peaceful escape in the heart of Devon’s stunning national park. Our Dartmoor cabin offers cosy comfort, complete privacy, and easy access to scenic walks, wild moorland, and iconic tors—perfect for a relaxing countryside getaway.
What is the check in and check out time?
Check in is from 4pm. It’s a self check-in with all details and the location of the key box emailed to you prior to arrival.
Check out is by 10am on the day of your departure.
Is there parking?
You’ll have your own private parking where there’s enough room for two cars. Should you wish to get a train, the nearest station is Newton Abbot, where there are regular taxis. The farm is roughly a twenty-minute drive away.
Can I order a food delivery?
Yes of course – in our confirmation we’ll send you a “what three words” for our specific location which you can then use for any delivery slots.
Is there WIFI?
Yes – since installing star link, despite being rural, we have excellent wifi. Phone signals aren’t usually a problem either.
Is there secure bike storage?
Yes – we can provide secure bike storage in our workshop. Just let us know if you’d like to use it!
If we have any problems, is there someone onsite to help?
Yes – we have a designated farm office onsite, which is open from 10-3pm Monday – Friday. Outside of these hours you’ll be given our contact details but someone is onsite at all times.
Is the Cabin suitable for people with mobility issues?
We have tried our best to work with the terrain that we have and the design of the cabin to make it inclusive, however those with mobility issues may wish to look through our accessibility guide as the bedroom is located on a mezzanine level accessed by a ladder.
What’s Included?
In the kitchen we include fresh farm eggs (as long as “Cluckington Palace” is on board! In which case local eggs will be provided). A pint of milk, teabags, coffee, sugar, salt, pepper, oil. There’s a small kitchen caddy of ‘kind to nature’ cleaning products and you’ll be provided with firelighters, kindling and logs. There’s a board game box, a radio and a library of books to curl up with.
In the bathroom, we provide towels, a bathmat, ‘kind to nature’ hand soap, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner in refillable containers.
In the bedroom extra snuggly blankets are provided, in addition to some fireside blankets to stay cosy.
Can I explore the farm?
Yes of course!. You’ll also have use of the tennis court, access to woodland walks (maps are provided), use of tranquil areas like the pond / pool-house and use of your own private garden which includes a seating area / table and a firepit. You’ll also have your own outside nook, which is undercover and perfect for sitting under starry nights. If you do wish to explore the farm, we’d recommend bringing wellies or walking boots with you.
Should you wish to book onto any ‘art / flower’ workshops, it’s best to do this ahead of your trip as workshops are popular.
Do you accept dogs?
We are a working farm and as such we sadly cannot allow four-legged friends. Sorry.
Is the kitchen well equipped?
We based the kitchen design on Brambly hedge books. This means its small but perfectly formed. We provide you with a small electric oven, plug in hobs, toaster, pots and pans, crockery, cutlery, glassware and a box of utensils / tea towels / oven mitt. There’s a fridge freezer and ice tray.
Do you supply a hairdryer?
Yes.
Location
We are based in the village of Bickington, South Devon and sit in a hidden valley just on the edge of the moor. We are a perfect location for exploring both the moor (3 miles from Haytor) and the coast (twenty minute drive away)
