100% SOLAR POWERED!
Our Journey to 100% Sun-Powered Stays
We’re excited to share a BIG step moving forward. Moving to 100% solar energy! Thanks to Bloom renewables, based just down the road at Dartington, we are now powered by the sun! Sustainability matters to us, and transitioning to renewable power is part of our commitment to reducing our environmental impact, whilst continuing to serve our guests in a responsible way.
There’s also something poetic about the idea that a place built for stories now runs on a story written by the sun! At The Book Nook, we’ve always believed that where you stay should feel as thoughtful as what you read. Quiet. Considered. Connected to place. So taking the cabin and the whole of the farm to solar isn’t just a technical upgrade, it’s a natural sustainable chapter.
One of the biggest lessons in creating a retreat like this is that nature doesn’t operate on convenience. Solar energy changes with the seasons, the weather, and the light, just like life here on Dartmoor. Instead of resisting that, we’ve embraced it.
That means:
-
The cabin naturally encourages slower energy use
-
Guests become more in tune with daylight and rhythm
-
Comfort is designed intelligently rather than excessively
-
Sustainability becomes part of the experience, not a compromise on it
We like to think of it as low-impact living with high-comfort intention.
What this means for future stays:
This is part of an ongoing journey. We’re continuing to explore ways to make The Book Nook even more regenerative, from biodiversity support on the land to thoughtful resources used across every stay. But solar power feels like an important milestone: a point where the cabin doesn’t just sit in nature, but actively works with it.
