Welcome to a project that broke us! A true labour of love designed and created by two mad people!

Hello, we’re Sarah and Nick and we are the creators and owners of The Book Nook. An Artisan Cabin created as part of a long term goal to regenerate our Dartmoor farm.

Firstly, it’s important to tell you that from the very beginning, we knew we wanted to do things differently. With nearly two decades of restoring the farmstead, we are big fans of reusing items and things we could find in farm stores, or could upcycle to create something genuine and bespoke. We don’t like new – we both come from a generation of older parents who had a “make, mend, do” philosophy. It is this which helped to inspire us as we undertook the build, beginning with a second-hand trailer to make the base of the cabin. A cabin on wheels soon became a very well loved and exciting undertaking and one in which we are now delighted to share with you.

The cabin has been designed to feel playful, restful and far away from the trappings of modern life. It’s been our labour of love and we feel really proud of how we’ve made it. It is nostalgic, reminds you of nights under the covers with a book and a torch and is a reminder to seek out the joyful stories of old.

Absolutely everything has been thought through and given new life. Even the bedroom floor was part of a dance floor we made for our wedding and the main bedroom beam came from our old cottage kitchen. All the glazing and doors were second-hand and every nook of the cabin tells a story. A narrative of history, heritage and how it’s important to do things differently.
