A COLLABORATIVE BOOK WRITTEN BY OUR GUESTS
At The Book Nook, stories have always mattered.
From the moment guests step through the Narnian wardrobe door, curl up beside the fire, or watch the mist drift across the hills, something shifts. Life slows down. Thoughts become quieter. Memories seem to rise to the surface. People begin noticing things again.
And often, they begin writing.
Over the past year, we’ve discovered something rather magical: many of our guests leave little pieces of themselves behind. Notes in guestbooks. Scribbled reflections over morning coffee. Poems inspired by the moor. Memories triggered by old books on the shelves. Thoughts shared under starlit skies.
So we had an idea.
What if these voices became part of a shared story?
Introducing “From the Cabin”
We are incredibly excited to begin a collaborative writing project with our guests, an annual collection of thoughts, memories, reflections, stories and creative pieces inspired by stays at The Book Nook.
Each year, we hope to gather together the words written here in the cabin and create a beautifully curated book. A book shaped not by one author, but by many. Some pieces may be deeply personal. Others whimsical. Some may be fictional tales dreamt up beside the log burner, while others could simply be reflections on rest, nature, love, nostalgia, grief, healing, creativity or slowing down.
There are no rules. No expectations. Just honest words inspired by a place designed for storytelling.
The idea feels especially fitting here on our little corner of Dartmoor, where literature is woven into the very walls of the cabin itself.
Why We’re Creating It
In a world that moves so quickly, meaningful reflection often gets lost.
But here, surrounded by woodland walks, books, birdsong and rolling hills, people reconnect with themselves in unexpected ways.
We wanted to preserve some of that magic.
Not as polished perfection, but as a real and human collection of moments. A time capsule of people passing through the cabin and leaving behind fragments of their stories.
Every guest experiences The Book Nook differently.
For some, it’s romance.
For others, solitude.
For others, creativity, healing, inspiration or escape.
“From the Cabin” will become a shared anthology of those experiences, a reminder that stories connect us, even when we arrive here as strangers.
And perhaps, years from now, guests may pick up an older edition and discover that someone else once sat in the very same chair, listening to the same owl calls across the valley, wondering about life in exactly the same way.
And isn’t that what stories are really for? To remind us that we’re never writing alone.
